 | Within walking distance of Les Vigeres is the small and pictureque village of Le Chalard with its fascinating 11th century fortified church and medieval cemetery.Situated on the famous Richard the Lionheart trail,the village is steeped in history.The monastery playing an important role in the crusades. During the 100yrs war between the English and the French,the village was occupied by the English army and as to this day a building that served as their headquarters is known as the La Maison Des Anglais.The local goldmine,originating from pre roman times, is still active,and producing 2 tonnes of gold per year. Gold particles are present in all the local streams and rivers . The village of Le Chalard is a very relaxing place to go for a stroll of a summer evening or to simply explore its history , it has a Post Office , and a fine Bar/Restaurant. | |
